These guides cover talech Register and related POS equipment. Paytura is your merchant services partner; talech provides the register software and device support referenced in these articles.

Unboxing talech Register

The talech Register is compatible with the following components. Your box may include different combinations of components based on type of package (Restaurant, Retail, or custom) and type of device (dual screen talech Register or single screen talech Register) you selected.

Connection port overview

The talech Register has the following control panel connection ports. 

  • USB-C (only with single screen talech Register for connecting Detached CFD)
  • LAN
  • USB
  • DC power

The connection ports can be used to connect the Detached CFD (single screen talech Register), power cable, card reader, receipt printer and network router with the following exceptions: 

  • Kitchen printer must connect via LAN to your network router (required for restaurant setup).
  • Cash drawer must connect via included RJ11 cord to the receipt printer.


Set up instructions

This section will provide step by step instructions on how to set up your talech Register. 

Connect to power

  1. Unpack the talech Register and all additional components.
  2. Remove the access panel on the front of the talech Register stand with a Phillips head screwdriver.

  1. Route the power cable through the cable hole and cable clip near the bottom of the stand. 
  2. Plug the power cord into the DC power port.

  1. After plugging in, the device will turn on automatically. If your device does not power on, press the power button behind the display.

Important! If a blue screen appears with an error message "No content is configured for this device" or "The content has failed to load on this device" or "This device has not been setup," please do the following:
  • If you are using assisted set up with talech Onboarding, leave the device plugged in and contact your onboarding specialist. 
  • If you are setting the device up on your own, leave the device plugged in and contact support.

Connect to the internet

talech recommends using an Ethernet connection. Refer to talech Network Requirements and Recommendations  to ensure your network matches the recommendations for talech Register. 

Ethernet connection (preferred):

  1. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to your router.

  1. Connect the other end of the Ethernet cable into the front panel of the talech Register.

Optional (not preferred):
If you cannot connect to the internet using the Ethernet cable, select your Wi-Fi connection.

Complete device setup

Once powered on and connected to the internet, the talech Register checks for software updates and device details.

Once setup is complete, the talech admin login screen appears. 

  1. Enter your email address and talech password. This password can be found in an email from talech, titled “Welcome to talech."
  • If you have already reset your password, sign in with your updated password.
  • If you have not reset your password, you will be able to on the next screen. Follow the steps on shown on your screen to complete your account setup. 
  1. Select Sign In

Connecting accessories

Important! Each time an accessory is connected, a pop-up message appears asking you to accept granting the device permissions on talech Register. You have to accept device permissions or the pop-up will continue to re-appear and the accessory won't work. 

 

Connect card reader

  1. Take the USB cable included with the Lane 3000 card reader and plug the HDMI side into the card reader. 
  2. Plug the other side of the cable into one of the red USB ports on the talech Register.

Connect receipt printer

  1. Press down on the lever to the left to open the printer hatch.

  1. Load the paper exactly as shown in the image below.

  1. Close the hatch.

  1. Use the included USB cable to connect the receipt printer to one of the four USB ports on the talech Register.

  1. Connect the USB-C end of the cable to the back of the receipt printer.

Connect cash drawer

  1. Use the included RJ11 cash drawer cable to connect the end labeled CASH DRAWER to the cash drawer. 
  2. Connect the other end of the cord into the port in the receipt printer (labeled PRINTER).

Connect kitchen printer

Load the cartridge 

  1. Open the front cover of the printer.

  1. Place the cartridge as shown below.

  1. Use the small, blue knob to tighten the ribbon. 
  2. Close the front cover. 


Load the paper

  1. Slide the latch on the right side of the printer up to open the paper hatch.

  1. Load the paper exactly as shown below. If not loaded correctly, the printer will jam.

  1. Close the hatch by pushing down on both sides of the cover.

Connect to router

  1. Use the included Ethernet cable to connect your kitchen printer to your network router.

  1. Connect the power cable and power on the printer. 
  2. Wait for the printer to show a steady green "Ready" status light and no "Error" light.

Connect barcode scanner

Star Micronics HR2081BT scanner 

The HR2081BT scanner comes with two cords:

  • A USB dongle that plugs into one of the blue USB-A ports on the talech Register.  
  • A USB charging cable with a USB-A and USB-B end for plugging into the scanner and the talech Register to charge the scanner.   

 

  1. Assemble the stand for the barcode scanner and place the scanner in the stand.

  1. Connect the scanner’s USB dongle into one of the blue USB-A ports on the talech Register.

  1. Connect the USB-A side of the charging cable into one of the USB-A ports on the back of the talech Register.  
  2. Connect the USB-B side of the charging cable into the scanner. Please allow the scanner to charge for at least 4 hours.  
 
Note: The light on the scanner will change from red to green once fully charged. 

 

  1. Once the scanner is fully charged, scan the following barcodes in this order:  
    1. Enter Setup 
    2. Restore All Factory Defaults 
    3. Exit Setup

 

Enter setup, Restore all factory defaults, and exit setup barcodes displayed.

 


 

Your scanner is set up and ready to use!

Connect detached customer facing display (CFD)

Important! These steps only apply to the single screen talech Register with the USB-C connection port.

 

  1. Remove the stand cover (A) and back panel (B) from the CFD.

  1. Route the USB-C cable up through the cable hole in the stand.

  1. Connect the USB-C cord in the USB-C port on the right panel.

  1. Replace the panels on the CFD. 
  2. Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to the USB-C port on the talech Register.

  1. Press the power button located on the back of the display to turn it on.
