Keeping your card reader updated is important so that you can benefit from the latest maintenance and bug fixes and ensure that the device is in compliance with card brand standards.

This article will show you the various ways talech software will alert you to an available card reader update so that you can take advantage of the update at your earliest convenience.

In this article

General notes

Periodic updates of your card readers occur throughout the year when a new version of the talech Register app is released or a certificate update for the card reader is released. If you’ve been notified of an upcoming card reader update, make sure you follow the recommendations closely so that you have the least number of interruptions when processing transactions.

talech Register app updates

Some card readers update automatically or upon first connecting or running a transaction after an update is released. Other card reader updates will be prompted from the talech Register/talech Mobile app which we provide examples of in this article below. Refer to these examples to see how you’ll be notified of an update so you can take care of it as soon as possible to avoid any business interruptions.

Certificate updates

For the Ingenico iPP320 and Ingenico Lane 3000 card readers: Certificate updates occur automatically overnight if your talech Register app is left open and in the foreground. We recommend leaving the talech Register app in the foreground at close of business so that any updates can be automatically applied so your card reader is always ready to use.

Closing the talech Register app or navigating away to a different app overnight will stall any automatic updates. The update can still be applied but will require you to update and reboot the reader upon connecting to the card reader first thing the next day.

The iPP320 requires two reboots after a certificate update and the Lane 3000 requires one reboot. It takes approximately 1-2 minutes for the card readers to reboot.
