Poynt devices are capable of providing the full functionality of a Point of Sale (POS) by downloading the talech app (learn more here talech Register on Poynt ).

Hardware & Printers FAQ

These guides cover talech Register and related POS equipment. Paytura is your merchant services partner; talech provides the register software and device support referenced in these articles.

Poynt devices are capable of providing the full functionality of a Point of Sale (POS) by downloading the talech app (learn more here talech Register on Poynt). However, it can also function as a simple payment terminal (i.e., credit card reader).

By using the POS bridge software, The Poynt device can connect to an iPad register and serve as a card reader. This is what is referred to to as 'semi-Integrated'.

Note: Poynt has stopped rolling out updates to the POS bridge software. This configuration is no longer recommended as limited troubleshooting is available to talech support.

Things to note

  • If you log out of the store account in the talech app, this will unpair the reader from talech Register. You will need to repeat the pairing process to reconnect Poynt.
  • All of the settings regarding customer signatures, tip prompts, and customer receipt can be configured from the talech Register. The suggested tip amounts on the Poynt terminal are controlled via the Poynt terminal settings.
  • All Poynt terminals in the account must be connected to the same wireless network. Separating the terminals for a single account across networks will result in processing and settlement errors.
  • Pre-Authorization is not supported by the Poynt in semi-integrated use with talech.
  • If you wish to set up a physical cash drawer with your Poynt device, it is recommended that you use an external printer and cash drawer attached to it. You can find a list of our supported printers here Supported Printers.

Configuration Options with Poynt

FeatureManaged ViaDetails
Customer Signature
talech Register
The 'Skip Signature for orders under X' setting in the talech Register will control whether the customer is prompted for a signature on the Poynt terminal. There is already a skip signature setting on the Poynt terminal. This should be disabled to allow the merchant to always control it through the talech app.
Tip Prompt
talech Register & Poynt terminal
talech Register has two customer signature modes:
Sign on paper: The tip and signature lines are printed on the paper receipt. The customer is not prompted to sign or select a tip on the terminal. The server will tip adjust later.
Sign on device: The tip and signature prompts are shown on the Poynt terminal.
Note: the merchant may still choose to skip the signature for orders under a certain amount.
Suggested Tip Amounts
Poynt terminal
In order to have Suggested Tip amounts show up in the payment flow, it has to be enabled within the Poynt settings and not within the talech Register settings.
Customer Receipt
talech Register
The customer receipt screen is always suppressed on the Poynt terminal. This is done to prevent the user from receiving a payment terminal receipt without the order details.
