While many business owners opt to use talech.com to configure their taxes, there are a few settings that you can configure from the talech app. You can see these below:
There are 3 types of taxes that talech supports
- Applied Tax: This is a percentage-based tax added after the subtotal.
- For example, $10.00 item with 10% tax. Total with tax = $11.00
- Inclusive Tax: This is a percentage-based tax included in the subtotal.
- For example, $10.00 item with 10% tax. Total with tax = $10.00
- Flat Tax: This is a dollar amount tax based per item.
- For example, $10.00 item with $1.00 tax. Total with tax = $11.00
Creating a Tax Rate on the talech Register
This guide explains how to create a tax rate in the Back Office settings or on talech.com. Set up tax rates by category or individual products.
Please note: Your tax rate defaults to 0%. It is important to set this up before taking payments.
Add new taxes in the Back Office > Settings > Taxes by selecting the + at the top right of the screen.
Select the type of tax and apply it to the appropriate categories – for example, you may have an alcohol tax that is applicable to your beverages category but not to your Desserts category.
You can apply multiple taxes to your categories, e.g., a state tax and a federal tax on an item.
It is important to remember when applying taxes to categories in Restaurants, you can apply different tax amounts on To Go orders versus Dine In orders.
How do I add a flat tax or charge?
A fixed amount can be added in the settings area on the talech app.
-
Navigate to the Back Office > Settings > Taxes.
-
On the taxes screen select the + button in the top right of the screen.
-
To add the tax, fill in the Tax Name, choose Tax Flat Amount and fill in the Tax Rate. You can limit which categories the fee or tax applies to by tapping on Applied Categories to choose the categories. When done, select Save on the top right.
With this setting configured each item on an order will have the tax applied. For example, three products with a "Flat Tax" of 10 cents will have an additional total of 30 cents on the order.
Display taxes on printed receipt
If your business has multiple taxes applied to a product or service, you may wish to have this displayed to your customers for visibility. You can configure this on talech by following the steps below.
-
From the main Register, tap on Dashboard > Back Office > Settings.
-
Under General Settings scroll to the Receipt section and toggle off the Collapse Taxes option.
When this setting is toggled off, your receipt will display all the taxes separately.
