Before you begin 

Login credentials 

Look for an email from talech that says, ‘Welcome to talech: Get Started Here!’ with your talech login credentials. Be sure to check your spam folder if not in your inbox.

Note: If you didn’t receive an email or need a new one sent, call 1-888-995-1998 > select language > Option 1 for Axium > Option 1 for Onboarding.

Charge the device 

Use the included charging cord and plug the USB-C side into the charging port on the left side of the device. Plug the other end into a power outlet and let the device fully charge. 
 

Note: At the end of the day, leave the Terminal device on and plugged into power. App and security updates occur overnight which require the Terminal to be on, not powered off.

Getting started

Get to know the device

Note:
  • If the battery is empty, the device automatically shuts off.
  • To conserve battery, a short press of the power button turns off the screen. Another short press of the power button turns the screen back on again.
  • To power on the device, press the power button for approx 1 second.
  • To power off the device, press and hold the power button for approx 2 seconds until a menu appears. Select Power off from the on-screen menu. Remember to turn the device back on and connect to power at the end of the day so it can receive overnight updates.

talech Terminal on Axium uses R40 58mm width / 40mm diameter thermal paper. The paper cover is located at the top of the device where there is a little slot for the paper to print. Pull the lip of the cover up to open it and rotate it back towards the rear of the device. When you need to reload the paper, insert the roll so the paper feeds from underneath the roll up through the printer slot.

Power on and connect to network

  1. Press and hold the Power button for about 1 second until the screen turns on.

Connect to Wi-Fi 

  1. After powering on, connect to your Wi-Fi network. Select Wi-Fi.
  2. Select your network and enter your network login.

  1. Select the Wi-Fi button at the top left to return to the previous screen.

Note: If the Wi-Fi fails to set up correctly and you need to access the Android Wi-Fi settings to connect to your network, press the circle button at the bottom to go to the Home screen. Select Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi. If an Input password screen appears, contact support for the code. Connect to your Wi-Fi and then return to the talech Terminal app from the Home screen.

Connect with SIM card 

Using a SIM card is only an option if you ordered the Terminal with our SIM card preinstalled. You cannot use your own SIM. 

  1. After powering on, on the Wi-Fi Connected screen, select Continue with cellular data.

  1. The device should connect to data automatically. If there any issues with the data connection, see the article talech Terminal Troubleshooting. Refer to the section Issue: SIM card isn’t connecting.

Sign in

Next, sign in to your talech account.
  1. Sign in with your talech credentials from your welcome email.

  1. Once signed in, you are prompted to create a new password. Enter a new password and select Next.
  2. After creating a new password, you are prompted to create a PIN. Enter a 6-digit PIN and select Next.

  1. Select the Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy to read through each. When ready, select Agree and Continue.

Complete onboarding checklist

Next, an onboarding checklist appears to help set up your preferences for talech Terminal on Axium. Depending on your business type, the checklist may not show all the items shown here.
  • Select the chevron to the right of the setting to expand and view a description.
  • Select Continue to open the setting and choose a preference.
  • Select Skip all, I’m good at the bottom to skip the onboarding checklist. If skipped, each of the settings on the checklist then can be found as follows:
    • Landing view: Dashboard > Settings > Preferences.
    • Default payment method: Dashboard > Settings > Payments.
    • Adjust tip options are checkout: Dashboard > Settings > Tips.
    • Create an item: Dashboard > Menu > + button.
    • Create a tax: Dashboard > Settings > Taxes

Select your landing view

Select one of the views available as your default view upon logging in.

  • Keypad: Select to transact using the total amount of an order.
  • Menu: Select to transact using items from your menu.
  • Dashboard: Select if you frequently navigate between features.

Set a default payment method

Select a payment method that will be automatically selected whenever you start a transaction.

  • Credit/Debit Card
    • Additional options for debit type and signature settings.
  • Cash
  • Gift Card
  • Other

Adjust tip options at checkout

Create default tip selections for customers to select.

  • Enable or disable tipping
  • Tip Suggestions
    • Display suggested tips on or off
    • Set suggested tip amounts/percentages
    • Default tip amount

Create an item

Create items that you sell frequently to start building your menu/catalog.

Create a tax

Create local taxes for your region and any additional taxes as needed.

Once all items in the checklist are complete, select Return to Dashboard to start using talech Terminal on Axium!

Verify connection to Terminal Management System   

To receive critical app and security updates, ensure the talech Terminal device can connect to the Terminal Management System.  

  1. Hold the Power button for 3 seconds.  
  2. Select Services from the pop out menu.

  1. Select TEM Call.   
  2. Select Check for updates.

  1. The device will run through a process to connect and install applications. There should be a green check mark for each of the three steps in the process.  
  2. Select CLOSE
Note: If the device failed any of the TEM CALL processes, please refer to the talech Terminal Troubleshooting article, section Issue: talech Terminal is connected to the internet but unable to receive app and security updates

  1. The device will reboot with a black ring on screen. This is the firmware installation.
  2. After firmware installation, the device will reboot to the home screen.
  3. The device will auto call HEM a second time. Please know there may be a 1-2 min delay. You can swipe down the notification showing a TEM call is in progress.
  4. After the second call is completed, the device should reboot and talech Terminal updated to the latest version.
  5. If the talech Terminal app does not automatically launch, swipe left or right on the home screen to locate the Terminal app and tap on it.

Transaction basics

Run a transaction

  1. Go to the Dashboard > Register.
  2. Use the Menu or the Keypad to add items to the cart.

  1. Select Pay.
  2. Select a payment method.
  3. Select Charge.

Refund a transaction or return an item from a transaction

A refund re-opens the order so that a different payment type can be used. A return refunds the money paid for an item but keeps the order in closed status.

  1. Go to the Dashboard > Orders.
  2. Select the Closed tab.
  3. Select the order you want to refund or the order you want to return an item from.
  • Select Refund at the bottom of the screen to move forward with the refund.
  • Select Return at the bottom of the screen to select an item to return.

Complete the Refund

  1. Confirm the payment to refund (depends on how the customer paid).
  2. Select Refund again to reopen the order to process the transaction under a different payment type.
  3. Select a receipt option for the customer.

Complete the Return

  1. Put a checkmark next to the item(s) that need to be returned.
  2. Select Refund.
  3. Confirm the payment to refund (depends on how the customer paid).
  4. Select Refund again to complete the transaction.
  5. Select a receipt option for the customer.
