Creating a Modifier List

Use Modifiers To add options to a product on your menu, such as cheese on a hamburger. Creating a modifier can be done from the web on talech.com or from the talech App.  

Creating modifiers from talech Register

  1. Go to Dashboard > Back Office > Menu > Modifiers > Select the + button in the top right.  
  2. Name your modifier list and select whether it is an Add On or an Exclusion.  
  • Add On: Anything that can be added to the product e.g., extra cheese, pickles, dipping sauce, etc.  
  • Exclusion: Anything that can be taken away from the product e.g., no cheese, no pickles, no sauce, etc.  
  1. Select Price Attribute if the modifiers have a price to associate.  

  • Example: $2.00 for bacon.  

  1. Select Minimum and Maximum Selections Allowed for the modifier list. Leaving the minimum at 0 will make it so a modifier does not need to be selected. A minimum of 1 will require the user to select at least 1 option for the menu item. 
  2. Select Options to create the modifier list choice(s).  
  3. Select the Back button, then, tap Save at the top right.

Creating modifiers from talech.com

  1. Log into your admin account on talech.com.
  2. Select Items > Modifier Sets from the left navigation.
  3. Select Add Modifier Set button.

    1. Select whether it is an Add-On or Exclusion.
    2. For the Add-On:
      1. Provide a name.
      2. Select whether to include the add-on in your online store.
      3. Set a minimum and maximum # of options a customer can add to the product. Leaving the minimum at 0 makes a modifier selection not required. Setting a minimum of 1 requires the customer to select at least 1 modifier option from the menu.

      1. Add the options for your Add-On and whether to enable add-on pricing for each option.
      2. Once complete, select Create Add-On Set.

    1. For Exclusion:
      1. Provide a name.
      2. Add as many exclusion options as needed and name each one.
      3. Once complete, select Create Exclusion Set.

    Assigning modifier lists to products

    1. Login as an admin to your talech Register App. Go to Dashboard > Back Office > Menu > Products.  
    2. Select the product you need to assign modifier list(s) to.  
    3. Scroll down and select Modifiers.  
    4. Select the modifier list(s) you wish to attach to the product.  
    • Modifiers appear in the register from left to right in the order in which they are added.  
    • Arrange this order by tapping and holding on the three horizontal lines, then dragging and dropping them in your chosen order.

    1. Select the Back button, then, tap Save.  

    Your modifier is now tied to your product. At the register, it will look like this:

    Assigning modifiers to products on talech.com

    1. Log in to your admin account on talech.com.
    2. Select Items > Products from the left navigation.
    3. Select the product you want to add a modifier to.
    4. From the Edit Product menu, scroll down to the Modifier Sets section and use the Search modifier sets field to add any necessary modifiers to the product.
    5. Select Save Options when finished.

    Assigning Default Modifiers to a product  

    Assigning default modifiers on talech Register

    Default Modifiers eliminate the need to select all the items that would normally come on a product (lettuce, tomato on a burger, cheese on a pizza, etc.). Standard modifiers are selected by default.  

    1. Go to Dashboard > Back Office > Menu > and select the product requiring default modifiers. 
    2. Scroll down and select Modifiers. Then, select Set Default Options in the upper right-hand corner.

    1. This screen will show all modifiers applied to the product, mimicking what it will look like in the register. Select the modifiers you wish to include as default on the product.

    1. After making your changes, select the Back button, then, tap Save.  

    At the register, the product will now have the default modifiers selected. If no changes are to be made to the order, it is ready to be paid for or sent to the kitchen.  

    If your customer does not want one of the default modifiers, follow these steps to remove it: press and hold on the modifier for 2 seconds and when you let go, it will no longer be selected and there will be a red border around it. This will be sent to the kitchen as an exclusion.

    Assigning default modifiers on talech.com

    1. Log in to your admin account on talech.com.
    2. Select Items > Products from the left navigation.
    3. Select the product you want to edit the modifier on.
    4. From the Edit Product menu, scroll down to the Modifier Sets section.
    5. Select the Select Defaults button next to the modifier you want to edit.

    1. Select the modifiers you wish to include as the default on the product.
    2. Select Apply.

    1. Select Save Options.

    Modifier Credit

    If you are using default modifiers with pricing, modifier credit can be used towards other priced modifier options.  

    • Example: I have a priced modifier for Bacon which is $1.00. This comes included in the price of the burger. However, if this modifier is deselected, it will give me a $1.00 credit that can be used towards an additional modifier.

    Note: If you do not wish to have modifier credits, do not assign prices to your defaulted modifiers.

    Rearranging Modifiers

    To rearrange the order in which modifiers appear on the register, follow the steps below:   

    1. Go to Dashboard > Back Office > Menu > Your product > Modifiers. 
    2. Drag and drop the selected modifiers by using the 3 grey lines on the right of the modifier name.  
    Note: The topmost modifier is what will appear on the left in the register. Top to bottom = left to right

    How Default Modifiers appear  

    There are settings in the app that will dictate how the modifiers appear on the register and on the order ticket. 

    Select how you want the default modifiers to appear in the register. Go to Dashboard > Back Office > Settings > General > Order > Modifiers.  


    If your settings look like this:

    Note: These are examples with the same default modifiers set up.  

     

    Modifiers Appear on Order Ticket

    For default modifiers to appear on the order ticket, change the advanced settings on the kitchen printer. This can be done by navigating Dashboard > Back Office > Settings > Printers > Select printer > Advanced Printer Settings.
