Products can be created and managed in talech Register and on talech.com. This article outlines creating a product on talech.com.

View your products 

  1. Log in to talech.com.
  2. Select Items > Products from the left navigation menu.
  3. All your current products display in a table format. You can add or remove columns from the table by selecting the Columns button. Add a checkmark to a column to bring it into the table. Remove a checkmark to take it off the table.

  1. You can also use the filters at the top to view different products based on categories, product type and visibility.
  • Categories: Select a specific product category to see only those products in that category.
  • Types: Select a product type to view only your bundles, assemblies or products.
  • Items: Filter by the product visibility to see only those products that are sold online, from your point-of-sale (POS) in store, both online and in store, or any hidden products that you’ve chosen not to show in your menu.

Create new product

  1. Select +New Product.
  2. Complete the fields for the Product Details. At a minimum, Product Name and Category are required.

More product information can be assigned from this screen. Details on the various product fields are explained below in the Product fields section.

Edit a product 

  1. Log in to talech.com
  2. Select Items > Products from the left menu.  
  3. Select a product to open the product details and additional product fields.

Upload products via Excel

You can also bulk upload your menu by using our Excel template and following the instructions in this article: Bulk Product Upload.

Download or export your products

Once your products are created, you can either download an .xls file of your product list or email a link to the .xls to the email address on file.

  1. From Items > Products, select the ellipsis […] to open the options menu.
  • Select Download Table to directly download an Excel of your product table.
  • Select Email Table to email a link to an Excel of your product table to your email address on file.

Product fields 

Product Tile 

Change the color or upload your own image for the product tile. Product tiles are visible from the menu.

Product Details 

Field  
Description 
Product Name* 
This is a long name that appears on receipts and all reports.  
Kitchen Nickname 
This is a short name that will show on tickets created by your kitchen printer.  
Category* 
All products must be created within a category.  
Supplier 
The supplier you purchase the item from.  
Description 
The product description that is visible to customers when viewing product details in your online store and from your point-of-sale when operating in kiosk mode.  
Product Visibility 
Select the checkbox to include this product in your point of sale and/or your online store (if you have online ordering).

Variation Sets 

Add any existing or create a new variation set to apply to the product.  

  1. Select Add Variation Set to find existing sets you’ve created or to create a new variation set.  
  2. Select the search field to view a list of existing variations or start typing the name of the variation to narrow the options down.

  1. Select the variation set you want to apply to the product.  
  2. Select Next: Select Variations.   
  3. Select the variations in the set that you want to apply to the product. 
  4. Select Create # Variations.   

The variations are now applied to the product.  

Create new variation set 

After selecting Add Variation Set, instead of selecting an existing variation, you can also create a new one.  

  1. Select Create New Variation Set.

  1. Give the variation set a name. 
  2. In the Variation Option Name, name the variation option and select Add. Repeat this step for as many variation options you need.

  1. Select Next: Select Variations.  
  2. Select the variations in the set that you want to apply to the product. 
  3. Select Create # Variations.  

The new variation set is now applied to the product.

Pricing 

In the Pricing section, determine the cost, markup, and price of the product.  

Field  
Description 
Enable Variable Pricing 
Toggle on to enter a custom price when this product is added to an order from Register. Products with variable pricing cannot be included in your online store.  
Cost 
The wholesale cost of the item. This is required to provide the profit metric on reports from talech.com
Markup % 
Uses the cost field to calculate a price based on the given markup percentage.  
Price 
The price of the product that customers will pay.

Inventory 

In the inventory section, give the product an item #, barcode, and set inventory alerts by tracking the inventory of the product.  

Field  
Description 
Track Inventory 
Keeps a running count of your available stock. When the product is sold, the quantity sold will be deducted.  
Unit of measure 
If Track Inventory is on, this field describes how the product is measured. This field is required for unit conversions, such as when inventorying wine bottles or kegs from which glasses or pints are sold.  
Item # 
Item numbers of SKUs are unique identifiers for an item (aside from barcode). This field can be up to 20 characters both letters and numbers. All item numbers must be unique.  
Barcode 
Existing codes such as UPC codes on products should be used. talech can also generate a barcode for use within your store if none exists. For products that may have multiple barcodes, enter a comma after each barcode. Barcodes must be 8 or 12 characters for talech to print them for you. 
Inventory 
If Track Inventory is on, enter the amount of this product currently in stock based on the Unit of measure. 
You can display low inventory or out-of-stock notices on your online store to prevent customers from adding unavailable items to their cart, or limit purchases to the quantity currently in stock.

Modifier Sets 

Add existing modifiers to the product.  

  1. Select the search field to view a list of existing modifiers or start typing the name of the modifier to narrow the options down. 
  2. Select a modifier to apply it to the product.  
  3. Select the Select Defaults button to set a default option for the modifier, if needed.

Taxes 

Add existing taxes to the product.  

  1. Select the search field to view a list of existing taxes or start typing the name of the modifier to narrow the options down. 
  2. Select a tax to apply it to the product.

Tags 

Add existing tags or create new tags to apply to the product.  

  1. Select the search field to view a list of existing tags. 

  • Select a tag to apply it to the product. 
  • Or type a new tag name and select Add Tag.
